Cilacap, C Java (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rocked Cilacap district, Central Java, on Friday night.

The epicenter of the quake which struck at 09.33 p.m. was in the sea 118 km southwest of Cilacap at a depth of 25 km, the head of the Banjarnegara geophysics station, Ahmad Lani said on Friday.

The quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, he said.

Local resident Alfarizi said he was shocked by the temblor.

"I was calling my friend at Adipala when the quake happened. My friend shouted quake, quake and I also felt the quake," he said.

He said the quake was strongly felt by local residents but it did not panick them.(*)
