Kalianda, Lampung (ANTARA News) - Lampung police precinct arrested 89 illegal immigrants hailing from Afghanistan, Iran, Irak and Europe in Rajabasa waters, Lampung Selatan district, lampung province on Tuesday.

"The illegal immigrants who did not have necessary documents wanted journey to Australia via Indonesia," Lampung Selatan police precinct chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Bahagia Dachi said here on Tuesday.

Bahagia said the arrest stems from a report made by Ruswan M,63, a fisherman of Panjang sub-district, Bandarlampung city, saying a group of foreigners he carried by boat requested the former to bring them to the Australia`s Christmas Island.

Ruswan together with his son Heri and his friend Ali intended to bring the illegal immigrants to Australia after being offered by one of his friends named Dolof with total wage Rp35 million.

After knowing the purpose of the immigrants is to leave for Australia, then Ruswan felt reluctant to carry them and finally reported to the local police office.(*)
