Solo, C. Java (ANTARA News) - Farid Rahman was elected as the new vice general chairman after the All-Indonesia Soccer Association (PSSI) extraordinary congress here on Saturday (July 9, 2011) elected Johar Arifin Hussein as its new chief.

Farid gained 51 votes against Erwin Aksa who collected 48 votes out of the total 99 votes in the PSSI extraordinary congress which was organized by the PSSI Normalization Committee (KN) led by Agum Gumelar.

Thus, duet Johar Arifin Hussein - Farid Rahman both of the majority voters or Group 78 of the PSSI congress, replaced the previous PSSI leadership duet Nurdin Halid- Nirwan Bakrie.

So, the PSSI congress will only elect on the day other nine members of the Executive Committee (Exco) after electing the duet general chairman and vice general chairman who lead the PSSI for 2011-2015 period.

Soon after Farid was, Erwin congratulated the duet Johar-Farid who had successfully won the majority votes in the congress.

Johar Arifin Hussein, former deputy minister of youth and sport affairs was elected as the new chairman of the PSSI for the next five year period.

In the second round of voting, Johar who is known to be close to the majority voters or Group 78, got 61 votes, defeating Agusman Effendi who collected 38 votes, while one delegate abstained.

The PSSI Congress in Solo, was organzied by the PSSI Normalization Committee, following the failure of a previous congress in Jakarta last May 20 to choose a new PSSI leader.

KN failed to elect the new PSSI executive board chairman through its congress due to rivalries that had prompted FIFA (Federation of International Football Associations), the body controlling football globally to seek a settlement.

Contrary to the last May 20, the PSSI extraordinary congress took place peacefully.(*)
