He said here on Tuesday that "Bank Indonesia continued encouraging banks to improve efficiency so that their intermediary role could be optimized while at the same time maintaining the stability of the overall banking system."
He said the stability of banking industry was reflected in the capital adequacy which was high above the minimum eight percent and the maintenance of the ratio of gross non-performing loan which was below five percent.
Deputy governor Muliaman D Hadad meanwhile said the growth of credit was still within the range of banking business plan reaching 24 percent.
He said besides quantity quality of credit must be improved. He said investment credits have so far been behind of the growth of credits while consumption credits have even declined.
Deputy governor Halim Alamsyah meanwhile said that banks seemed to have changed their credit financing pattern shown by more credits going to the investment sector, followed by credits for working capital and consumption respectively at 13 percent and 10 percent.
"There has been a change of conduct and banking business strategy which is healthier," he said.
Darmin said the impact of investment credits on economy was very good although their benefit would only be felt in the long term.
"The impact could be quick or long depending on the projects but in general the investment growth is better," he said.
