Tomohon, North Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Around 39 sick evacuees from the Mt.Lokon eruption in Tomohon, North Sukawesi, have been referred to hospitals near the town for more intensive treatment.

The head of Tomohon`s health and social service, Dolvin Karwur, said here on Wednesday the patients were mostly people aged more than 60 years and children.

The patients in general were suffering from respiratory problems, he said. They had been taken to the Bethesda and Gunung Murian hospitals.

Mt. Lokon had become increasingly active since last month and the volcano`s danger status was raised to alert on June 27, 2011 and ready on July 10. It erupted on July 14 causing the evacuation of 5,061 people from Kinilow and Kakaskasen to around 23 evacuation centers.
