Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri handed over social assistance in the form of rehabilitation of uninhabitable homes, public facilities and water project for residents in Penjaringan, North Jakarta on Sunday.

The assistance was directly handed over by the minister to the residents of RW 07 and villagers living around the Yayasan Nurul Islam foundation in Penjaringan village.

Salim provided the assistance to 51 poor families who respectively received Rp10 million and Rp150 million worth of three units of public facilities.

The minister also provided assistance in the form of artesian wells worth Rp230 million.

"What we are doing today is not an end but will continue in Penjaringan and in other areas in the country," the minister said.

The minister said that there were many social problems the people were facing, among others, poverty.

He said that based on statistical data, poverty in the country reached 12.49 percent or about 30.02 million in 2011.(*)
