Terrorism is terrorism.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - On behalf of the Indonesian people and the government, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has offered his deepest sympathy to the people and the government of Norway.
The head of state expressed his condolences following the attacks that left at least 93 dead in Norway on Friday, July 22, 2011, when militants staged twin bomb and shooting attacks, as a blast tore through government buildings in Oslo and a gunman opened fire at a youth meeting of the governing party at Utoeya, an island near Oslo.
The explosion near Norwegian government headquarters left seven dead and nine seriously wounded, and the shooting that followed at Utoeya took a death toll of 10.
In relation with the violent acts in Norway, President Yudhoyono said terrorist acts could be perpetrated by any group of people, regardless of religion, race, and ethnicity.
"Terrorism is terrorism," the president said in a press conference at his office here on Monday to respond to acts of terrorism in Norway.
"Indonesia strongly condemns such inhuman acts of terrorism, proving that it is no respecter of persons and can happen anywhere, and anytime," he added.
In the company of Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa, the president said the acts of terrorism could take place anywhere including in Norway which has been relatively safe and peaceful so far.
Therefore the head of state called on his countrymen to remain cooperating with security officials in ensuring public security and order.
"Good cooperation and partnership between the state and its people is the key to success in tackling the terrorism in the country," the president said.
