Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed hope that the Regional Representatives Council (DPD)could synergize with the government to settle the agenda of national development more effectively.

The government wanted to work closely with the DPD to discuss important issues surrounding regional development, the president said in his prelude to a consultation meeting between the government and the DPD at the State Palace here on Tuesday.

"Through this consultation meeting we want our working relations to run more effectively, we can exchange ideas and share information on our respective important agenda so that both sides can synergize," he said.

The consultation meeting attended by Vice President Boediono and Cabinet ministers as well as the DPD leadership such as Irman Gusman, GKR Hemas, and La Ode Ida was called to make preparations for a joint meeting of the DPD and the House of Representatives (DPR) to be held on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on August 16, 2011.

The President is scheduled to deliver a state-of-the-nation address and the draft 2012 state budget and financial notes at the meeting which will for the first time hosted by the DPD.

Yudhoyono said the consultation meeting between the government and the DPD also served as a means to discuss a number of issues including the management of regional governments.

"I have received information from the council`s leadership that the meeting will raise a number of issues related to regional development and governments. Besides responding to what the DPD will raise at the meeting, the government will of course come up with one or two issues related to the management of regional development and governments," he said.
