Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The Medan district court on Thursday sentenced two attackers of a police station in Hamparan Perak, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, to 10 years in jail each.

Chief Judge Karto Sirait read the verdict for Abdul Gani Siregar and Pautan, who were found guilty of violating the law on terrorism and criminal law.

The sentence was five years lighter than the prosecutor`s demand.

Public prosecutor RV Lumenten said Abdul Gani had broken the glass window of the police station while Pautan had burned a police car in the attack.

"Their acts had caused fear and public unrest. That is also a terrorist act," he said.

The attack at the police station on September 22, 2010 left three officers dead. They were shot by Taufik, Marwan and Dani who are friends of Gani and Pautan.

The two defendants meanwhile were also involved in a heist at CIMB Bank Niaga in Medan on August 18, 2010 that left one police officer dead and two bank security guards wounded.(*)
