The Treasury named Umar Patek, Abdul Rahim Baasyir, and Muhammad Jibril Abdul Rahman as key figures tying the Jemaah Islamiyah network to other militant groups including Al-Qaeda, Pakistan`s Lashkar-e Tayyiba, and the Abu Sayyaf Group in the southern Philippines.
Patek, tied to numerous attacks in the Philippines and also the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202, was extradited last week from Pakistan to Indonesia.
Jibril, the Treasury said, has been a conduit of money for Jemaah Islamiyah attacks and underwent military training in Pakistan, "where he met with Al-Qaeda and Taliban personnel."
Baasyir meanwhile has been Jemaah Islamiyah`s "main contact" with Al-Qaeda as well as its link to Lashkar-e Tayyiba, the Treasury said.
The sanctions forbid any American from engaging in business transactions with the men and freeze any assets they may have on US territory. (*)
