It was the second time for the President to inspect the road following the upgrading of the Nagreg ascent after its slant was cut. The first inspection was done in 2009 at the Cikaledong section which is the second phase of the Nagreg upgrading project.
President Yudhoyono was flanked by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono and several cabinet ministers and regional officials during the inspection which was part of his current Ramadhan tour of several regions.
On the occasion he was briefed on the improvement of the Nagreg slant by public works ministry officials including the cutting of the peak by 10 meters, a job that was finished a few days ago.
"I want an evaluation done every year to minimize problems and obstacles after the operation of the Nagreg Ring Road," the President said.
"Nagreg has been one of the bottlenecks and with the ring road we assume the problem has been solved," he said.
Bandung resort police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Sonny Sonjaya said the operation of the Nagreg Ring Road certainly would help smooth traffic flows in the area as a one-way systen could now be applied to them.
Vice President Boediono also made inspection visits to public transportation hubs on Wednesday. He visited Jakarta`s Senen Railway Station, accompanied by Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono and Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi.
Upon a question from Boediono a would-be passenger said that this time the station was more orderly and comfortable as less bustling occured.
Boediono agreed. "the service and preparations for this year`s traveling at Senen as we have all seen is more orderly than the previous year," he said to newsmen after the inspection.
Station manager Djoko Sukotjo said he now applied a boarding pass system to select people allowed to enter the station. He said would-be passengers were also allowed to enter the station an hour before the train departed.
Meanwhile he had also set up makeshift tents to shelter those waiting to enter the station.
