"I hope Thailand will contribute and participate in ASEAN Summit and East Asia Summit in Bali later in November so that ASEAN community becomes more robust in the development of regional political and economic architecture," President Yudhoyono said in a press statement after a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Merdeka Palace on Monday.
On the occasion the president expressed hope that with a support from all Asean heads of states and governments, the Bali summit in November would yield a solution to both regional and international problems.
"I hope the Thai prime minister will contribute in achieving the agenda," President Yudhoyono said.
Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck said he would fully support the role of Indonesia as ASEAN chairman and to contribute
to the strengthening of ASEAN 2011.
"In November Indonesia will host ASEAN Summit and East Asia Summit in Bali and I will have an opportunity to participate in discussions with my other colleagues to make the summits a great success," Yingluck said.
The younger brother of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin also said he respected Indonesia`s role in ASEAN community and international community, and therefore he added that Bangkok found it necessary to step up the two countries cooperation relations.
"I have tasked Thai foreign minister and ambassador to Indonesia to follow up the discussion in this visit for a concrete result," he said.
The Thai prime minister arrived in Jakarta at 9.15 on Monday returned to Bangkok at 2.30 in the afternoon after a bilateral meeting with President Yudhoyono, attending a luncheon at the State Palace, and visiting Kalibata Heroes Cemetery. (*)
