Mahfudz Abdurrahman, member of House Commission VI on trade and industrial affairs said here on Wednesday that there were many problems that should led the president to evaluate the performance of the trade minister.
He said that under the trade minister, Indonesia was still importing rice, sugar, still flooded with imported goods that disadvantaged local traders and facing imported salt problems.
Mahfudz also questioned why Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu had not yet submitted to the House a draft law on trade while Commission VI had repeatedly reminded her of the matter.
"We have never been given information why the draft law has not yet been submitted to the House," he said.
He said that the cases indicated the weaknesses of the minister`s efforts to safeguard the domestic trade.
"If this condition continues to be let unheeded it will cause many industries to close down. It will result in the increasing number of unemployment due to the increasing number of workers lays off," he said.
