Kumar travelled to Indonesia to attend the show as part of a five-nation tour in East Asia where he re-affirmed America`s commitment to maintaining strong commercial ties with its Asian trading partners, the US embassy said in a press statement here Wednesday.
Assistant Secretary Kumar`s mission to increase trade between the United States and Indonesia falls under the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership`s commitment to build stronger commercial ties.
While at the show with US Ambassador Scot Marciel, Kumar met with major American manufacturers such as Caterpillar and 3M. He also discussed the Indonesian market with middle size US firms that have successfully entered the Indonesian marketplace in recent years.
Assistant Secretary Kumar met with Cory Muhlenkort, Marketing Manager from Sioux Corporation headquartered in Beresford, South Dakota, which sells pressure washing and other industrial cleaning equipment to the Indonesian mining and utilities sectors.
Sioux Corporation exports to 50 countries and in 2009 won the President`s "E" Export Award. They found their Indonesian distributor, PT Marton Tekindo Abadi, in 2009 through the Commerce Department?s Gold Key Service.
Assistant Secretary Kumar also met with Rockmore International of Portland, Oregon. Founded in 1948, Rockmore is one of the world`s leading manufacturers of top quality percussive rock drilling tools, and began marketing its drill bits and percussive drilling equipment in Indonesia in 2010.
Indonesia is one of the world`s leading producers of coal, tin, nickel and gold.
Kumar joined John Farrel, Vice President, and Majid Tavakoli, Vice President, from Thompson Pumps, a manufacturer of portable dewatering pumps from Port Orange, Florida, in their booth at the show. Their firm is exhibiting at the EPRE show for the first time.
