Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Environment Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta said the government hailed the results of the TUNZA International Children and Youth on the Road to Rio+20 Conference held Bandung, West Java, from September 27 to October 1, 2011.

"I think this is a correct declaration. These youths are willing the development of environmental friendly economy, and that is a good idea," the minister said in Bandung on Saturday.

One of the points in their declaration is that they will lobby their respective governments to give priority to Ri0+20 Earth Summit and to adopt sustainable lifestyles that are related to the ecology.

Besides that, they also agreed to educate the community and increase awareness of sustainable production and consumption of energy.

Gusti said that the Indonesia government was glad to host the conference and hoped that this important event would successfully convey the message of the future generation to world leaders.

He said that the declaration was in line with the development in Indonesia which was being directed to environment friendly energy based development.

The conference was kicked off by Vice President Boediono officially kicked on Tuesday.

Ridho Sani, the chairman of the conference`s organizing committee, said the event was a historical one because in 2012 there will a Rio Summit where TUNZA children and youth could raise their voices.

Organized by Indonesia and UNEP (United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the event in Bandung brings together over 1,000 young people, mentors and celebrities from 120 countries.

Under the theme "Reshaping our Future through a Green Economy and Sustainable Lifestyles", the conference explored the role of young people in sustainable development and provide youths with inputs for the upcoming United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, also known as Rio+20, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012.(*)
