Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A former staff member of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been handed over to the prosecutor`s office over an embezzlement case.

"National Police Crime Investigation Agency`s corruption investigators have handed over the suspect and the evidence for an investigation process," the chief of the South Jakarta prosecutor`s office, Masyhudi, said here on Tuesday.

He said the suspect, Endro Laksono, was charged with violating Article 8 of Law Number 20 on corruption eradication.

"It means the person concerned as an official has committed embezzlement worth Rp388 million at KPK," he said.

He said the suspect as a staff member and an assistant treasurer of the KPK`s deputy for prevention had conducted an embezzlement from January to December 2009.

"The Article 8 of the Law carries a minimum sentence of three years and maximum sentence of 15 years in jail," he said.

He said KPK had reported the case itself to the Police Crime Investigation Agency.

"We are detaining him at Cipinang Detention Center for 20 days as of today," he said. (*)
