Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The ministry of energy and mineral resources (ESDM) is committed to increasing mining activities, including the activity of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), in order to ensure the achievement of optimal results for the state, a cabinet minister said.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Zahed Saleh made the remark here on Tuesday after a meeting with PTFI representatives to discuss the problems that had taken place at the mining location of the US-based firm in Papua.

Darwin said his side now was focusing on the settlement of TPFI`s problems which had forced the company to temporarily halt its production process.

"I am now more focused on the Freeport problems. Let`s talk about the cabinet reshuffle only after this problem is settled," the minister said.

He said that his ministry`s commitment to settling the problem was placing a mining inspector in the field to monitor all activities and to protect and maintain equipment and facilities.

The minister said the monitoring was intended to prevent the occurrence of accidents and environmental pollution at present and in the future.

"We have been continuously coordinating with the office of the law, political and security coordinating minister to follow up the handling of issues relating to security at PTFI that could disturb the continuity of the firm`s operations," he said.(*)
