Ternate, N Maluku (ANTARA News) - Indonesia should not expect too much from the cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, an observer said.

"In my opinion, the cabinet shake-up done by Yudhoyono will not maximally improve the performance of the Second United Indonesia Cabinet," Dr Ridha Adjam, political observer of the University of Khairun (Unkhair), said here on Wednesday.

He said that there were several factors that caused the reshuffle not to contribute maximally to the performance of the Second Indonesia United Cabinet. The factors included compromise (in assigning a minister) with political parties which supported the government`s coalition.

Ridha said that the matter could be seen from the fact that ministers who did not perform well were maintained while on the other hand ministers who showed good performance were replaced.

He cited, as an example, Fadel Muhammad who was replaced. Fadel, he said, during his leadership at the maritime and fisheries ministry was able to develop the maritime and fisheries sectors.

Fadel`s programs had contributed to the improvement of fishermen`s welfare , he said.

In the meantime, he added, Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar and Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng were maintained. Ridha said the two ministers were on the spotlight of the public in connection with the corruption cases at the two ministries.(*)
