Washington DC (ANTARA News/Xinhua-0ANA) - US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell will travel to Indonesia and the Philippines next week, the State Department announced Friday. Beyond that visit, President Barack Obama has has a scheduled to attend the East Asia Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali together with other world leaders in mid November.

Campbell will arrive in Jakarta next Tuesday, where he will meet with senior Indonesian officials on bilateral relations, regional events and key upcoming meetings, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, the East Asia Summit and the US-ASEAN Leaders Meeting hosted by Indonesia, the department said in a statement.

He will then travel to Manila next Wednesday and hold talks with senior Philippine government officials, it added.

This year's APEC summit will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Nov 12-13, and its US host saw it as a opportunity "to highlight the vast potential the Asia-Pacific region holds for American companies and workers." US officials would also attend the Nov 19 East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia. (H-AK)
