The distribution of the koran to the people was trusted to their local partners in the 12 provinces, such as Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java and West Papua, a release made available to Antara here said on Friday.
In addition, the aid program also included the construction of a mosque in the housing complex of the state secretariat officials.
Named Al Habib, the mosque to be built will be the biggest the Qatar Charity ever contributed to the Indonesian community, Country Director of Qatar Charity agency in Indonesia Hasan Azekour said.
The program was reported to be a supporting activity of the Qatar Charity in Indonesia since 2006.
Previously, Qatar Charity had reportedly built 437 mosques, 16 schools and seven multi function residential complexes.
"Since its start in Western Java Province - October 2008, the project of improving the Indonesian family living standard aimed at helping and enabling 400 poor families. But, by Allah`s favor, some 1353 families have been able to increase their income to amount to 200%," Hasan said.
"However, there are still around 900 families under the Charity`s continuous supervision this year. The projects carried out in Western Java are part and parcel of the income -generating projects system which Qatar Charity started in 2008 in Aceh and Java with a total balance of QR1, 400,000," he further said.
The income-generating projects, which are financed or supported by Qatar Charity, covered the fields of agriculture, small businesses, different professions, services and animals- breeding.
Such projects have resulted in a 25% increase in the income of beneficiaries. This, in turn, helped the beneficiaries to return the good loans to Qatar Charity, in addition to a 33 percent surplus of the total amount of the loan.
It is noteworthy to say that Qatar Charity has launched the second round of the income-generating projects in Banda Aceh. This stage included 64 projects, among them cattle-breeding, small businesses and sewing projects.
Qatar Charity also carried out 171 projects in Indonesia in 2009. They covered different fields of life: water, education, housing, income-generating projects and building schools at a cost of QR 17.082.000.
Although it was opened in 2005, the Office of Qatar Charity in Indonesia carried out the building of 367 Mosques, 5 multi-service centers, 200 residential units and clinics, 523 wells and the building of 9 shops within five years.
As a non-governmental organization, Qatar Charity was set up in 1992 for the development of the Qatari society and other communities in 30 countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe. (SDP-16/E002/S012)
