"On November 1, 2011, Komodo supporters (P2Komod) together with Komodo Ambassador Jusuf Kalla will organize an national week for Komodo voting. The voting for Komodo Week in NTT will be led by NTT Governor Lebu Raya at the square of the governor`s official residence at 5.30 am local time," NTT Regional Government Spokesman Alo Dando said here on Sunday.
During the Komodo national voting week, all regions in Indonesia are expected to take part so that the activities in voting for Komodo as one of the New7Wonders of Nature would be realized.
"All (collective and individual voting movements, institutions and other forms of participation) should be involved so that the prehistoric giant lizards could be included in the list of the world`s New7wonders of Nature on November 11, 2011," he said.
In the meantime, Kalla, who visited Komodo Island on October 4, 2011, has been tirelessly campaigning for Komodo by asking people to join the SMS voting, when he was visiting various regions such as when he was in Balikpapan (East Kalimantan), and his home town of Makassar (South Sulawesi) recently.
"We need at least 25 million SMS to win the contest. Given the fact that around 160 million Indonesians have cellular phones, I am confident we could win," Jusuf Kalla said.
Voting for the New7Wonders of Nature will end on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11) at 11:11 am GMT, which is around 11 days from Sunday (Oct 30), and the preliminary results will be announced later on November 11.
The Komodo dragon, Varanus komodoensis, is to be found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang and Gili Dasami, which are part of the Komodo National Park.(*)
