The director of the regional police command`s narcotics intelligence, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ahmad Alwi, said here on Friday the arrests were made by the Kapuas Hulu resort police where the incident occurred.
The three foreign nationals are known as Lai Teck Man alias Amaan, Lee Huat Onn and Tay Liang Thiang.
They were caught carrying meth when entering Indonesia in Badau sub-district a week ago.
Ahmad Alwi quoting a report from the Kapuas Hulu resort police on the chronology of the event said the date of their arrest was Thursday on October 27.
Lai Teck Man alias Amaan along with Lee Huat Onn departed from Kuching, Malaysia, to Lubok Antu that borders Indonesian sub-district Badau and met Tay Liang Thiang to buy meth.
After buying for packets of meth at 900 Malaysian ringgits Lee Huat Onn then kept the stuff under his car`s dashboard.
One of the four packets was opened and used in Lee Teck Mann`s car. The three then crossed into Indonesia through a border check point to find girls. They parked the car at the checkpoint and they then went into Indonesia by motorbike taxi.
"They were stopped by police several meters from the Badau cross road," Ahmad said.
There the police checked and found an inhaler. Following an interrogation Tay Liang Thiang confessed he had just used meth and the evidence was still in the car.
When checked the police found four packets of meth in the car. "They were all then arrested. They are now still held in the police resort," he said.
He said the suspects could face charges against Articles 112 and 115 of Law Number 35 of 2009 on narcotics.
Ahmad Alwi said the police would have difficulties arresting narcotic users in the border area unless they were caught red-handed.
He said a lot of goods from Malaysia entered Indonesia without tight check through the checkpoint as officials could not carry it out in detail.
