Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The ASEAN Foundation in drumming up the convening of the 19th ASEAN Summit in Bali, took part in ASEAN Fair events by supporting an exhibition of ASEAN traditional textiles, on November 13-15, 2011.

The foundation`s Program Coordinator Septania H. Kadir said in a statement posted on the foundation`s official website here on Wednesday that the exhibition was held to promote ASEAN awareness, understanding and appreciation of the region`s rich and diverse arts of weaving as an invaluable heritage.

The ASEAN Fair which is open for one month showcases exhibitions, bazaar, arts and cultural events as side activities conducted by the Indonesian government, as the current ASEAN Chair, on the occasion of the 19th ASEAN Summit which is taking place in Bali on November 17-19, 2011.

Septania said that the various patterns of traditional textiles reflected links to the dynamism of the region`s traditions and artistic manifestation that bind the communities in the region closer.

She further emphasized that the ASEAN Foundation, in line with its mandates, remained committed to foster greater awareness through people-to-people activities that supports greatly towards the establishment of the ASEAN Community by 2015.

Indra Riawan, the director of Textile Museum Jakarta, who together with Wastraprema Indonesia and the ASEAN-TTAC (ASEAN Traditional Textiles Arts Community) initiated this program, said that they are proud to support the promotion of ASEAN traditional textiles.

He stated that the exhibition reflected great commitment from the community on the importance of preserving the invaluable textiles of the region.(*)
