Yahuza and Triyaningsih won two gold medals from marathon to increase the country`s collection of gold medals from the event to 13 far surpassing the target set at only seven gold medals.
All of the 13 gold medals were won from running events.
Triyaningsih and Franklin Ramses Burumi contributed the most medals or three gold medals each.
Triyaningsih won gold medals from marathon, 10,000 meter and 5,000 meter run while Franklin from 100 meter, 200 meter and 4x100 meter relay race.
The rest gold medals came from Serafi (100 meter), Rini Budiarti (300 meter staples), Heru Astriyanto (400 meter), Ridwan (1,500 meter) and Yahuza (marathon).
Indonesia was initially worried its collection of gold medals would drop due to the absence of sprinter Suryo Agung in the SEA games this year but it was found "Franklin could work well and make an achievement," the general secretary of the All Indonesia Athletic Association (PASI), Tigor Tanjung, said.
In addition to 13 gold medals Indonesian athletes also won 12 silver and 11 bronze medals from athletics.
Not many new records had been broken in the event probably because of the weather which was extremely hot in Palembang. Many athletes had even under-performed.
Triyaningsih for example in the Asian Games in Guangzhou last year clocked two hours and 31 minutes in marathon but this year in the 26th SEA Games she finished in two hours 45 minutes and 35 seconds.
Triyaningsih could not break the SEA Games record of her sister Ruwiyati (2:34.29) made in 1995.
Some records however were broken such as in the jumping and throw events.
Chatchawal Polyiam from Thailand broke her own record in the men`s hammer throw by throwing as far as 17.74 meter which was farther than 17.43 meter made in the 2007 SEA Games.
"Relatively not many records were broken probably because of the hot weather," Tigor said.
