Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - The tourism and creative economy ministry is pleased that Bali successfully hosted the sixth session of UNESO`s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage from November 22 to 29, 2011, a ministry official said.

"We are grateful because we were able to gather 535 delegates from 70 countries," the ministry`s Director General for Cultural Value, Arts and Film Ukus Kuswara said here on Tuesday.

The international meeting was also a tourism promotion for Bali in particular and Indonesia in general, Ukus said.

The Bali meeting was the longest session held by the Committee so far and had yield many decisions and recommendations, Ukus, concurrently the meeting organizing committee chairman, said.

The session among other things decided to officials inscribe Aceh`s Saman dance in UNESCO`s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova officially opened the 6th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

During her stay in Indonesia, she also met with the Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono and the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu.

In Bali, Irina visited the cultural landscape of Bali which has been proposed by the Indonesian Government for inscription onto the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The visit covered some of the proposed sites, such as Batukaru Temple, a unique and sacred mountain sanctuary, and the royal temple of Tabanan dynasty, located in the middle of a rain forest and beneath Mount Batukaru. This temple is one of the biggest Hindu temples in Bali and was built to worship the deities of the surrounding mountains and lake.
