The matter was said by the director of Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) Budi Irawanto in a press release here Wednesday.
He said the public lecture program will address the audience by focusing on their activities about Indonesian films.
"JAFF realizes that without audiences the film will lose its vitality. The discussions to be held is derived from the concerns of the audience that often escapes from the attention of Indonesian cinema development," he said.
Budi noted there were various problems in placing or looking at the presence of the movie spectators.
According to him, an example problem is the film critics for often positioned the audiences as a part who have not good tastes to the film.
"In addition the producers in making films often claim that their films represent the tastes of the audiences, even though there was never any explanation of the audience about their representativeness," Budi said.
The film censors also tend to have a view that movie goers` way of thinking is easy deceived through the films.
Budi said based on the various problems JAFF tried to discuss it and to put film audiences as a part that interacts with the film through a variety of ways.
According to him in the realm of film studies, cinephilia is known as a term meaning the excitement to love the movie with all passions that give birth to a variety of activities as a manifestation of the love for it.
Budi explained cinephilia in Indonesia has not been studied scientifically and systematically.
"Cinephilia in Indonesia has not been widely seen as an important symptom that accompanies the development of Indonesian cinemas," he said.
The discussion will involve a number of speakers to discuss cinephilia with various dimensions. The speakers are Adrian Jonathan as the author of Film Indonesia Or Id, the chief editor of Bulletin Montage Himawan Pratista and an activists from Indonesian Jadul (old) Movie Lovers Community (KPFIJ) Toto Andromeda.
Budi explained the interesting issues to be discussed included what driving the emergence of cinephilia symptoms in the Indonesian film industry in the middle of the rush of foreign films are.
Furthermore, the discussions will also talk about how cinephilia establishing the specific knowledge about Indonesian films at the level of individuals or communities in the middle of the scarcity of adequate film journals in Indonesia.
"The discussions will also explore how the relationship between cinephilia and film criticism practices in Indonesia as well as the cinephilia contribution for collecting Indonesian films," he said.
The discussion will examine how far the symptoms of cinephilia are able to cultivate the Indonesia film new audiences.
The 6th Asian Film Festival will be held at the cultural park and the Indonesian-France Institute (LIP) in Yogyakarta.
"JAFF has a role in education, entertainment, tourism and cultural arts community. The festival is also working closer with the community," Budi Irawanto said.
