The incident caused a stir in the local community because the immediate neighbors of 50-year-old widow Mas Intan and her son Wege had not heard or noticed anything unusual or suspicious before it happened.
"There were no suspicious sounds before the incident but there was a man about 35 years of age who visited Mas Intan the previous night on Sunday (Dec 18), but I don`t know how long the guest stayed," said one of the close neighbors, Puput, here Monday.
But local residents became suspicious after Mas Intan and Wege remained unsighted and their confectionery food stall closed all day on Monday.
Later Puput knocked on Mas Intan`s front door but nobody answered and therefore she immediately reported the situation to neighborhood chief Syahril who directly called the local police department.
According to Syahril, both victims had been living in his area for the past 20 years, even after Intan`s husband was also mysteriously murdered in 1997.
"The incident is almost similar to what happened to Intan`s husband, where he was killed at home and the killer or killers have until now not been caught," Syahril said.
The local police spokesperson Adjunct Commissioner Gunar Rahardianto SiK said both victims were killed with a blunt object and sharp weapons.
Mas Intan and Wege died from multiple stab wounds on their bodies, Gunar said, adding the police were still collecting all the evidence on the mysterious murder case to find out the motive for the crime and clues to identify the perpetrators.
