"While the flow of Kapuas was 10 cm lower than on Sunday, the flood water still entered the houses up to 20 centimeters high," said Santi (33), a household woman of Komplek Karet Indah, Sungai Beliung village, Pontianak Barat sub-district, said Monday.
Following two days of overflowing of Kapuas she and her family were very busy cleaning their home, he said.
"Almost each year entering December to February, the high time of Kapuas inundated their homes," he said.
A similar statement came from Agus Mustari (35), from Jalan Komodor Yos Sudarso, Pontianak Barat. "He said the flood waters also inundated part of Jalan Komodor Yos Sudarso as high as 50 centimeters, especially parts of the road that had not been built higher with concrete," Agus said.
A number of protocol roads in Pontianak were also inundated to a height of 10 to 50 centimeters by the water flow of Kapuas, like Jalan Hijas, Gajah Mada, and Tanjungpura, part of Jalan Komodor Yos Sudarso.
The Pontianak city administration in the last few years had been raising some protocol roads in the city with concrete foundations of up to 50 centimeters high.
