Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - As of the second week of January 2012 the Maluku division of State Logistics Agency (Bulog) was still conducting market operations at two central markets in Ambon city, local Bulog spokesman Tugiyo said here on Tuesday.

"To date we are still conducting market operation at Mardika and Nusaniwe markets," Tugiyo said, adding that the market operation was conducted at Maluku Governor Karel Albert Ralahalu`s instruction.

According to him the market operation has been conducted since July 2011 to neutralize rice prices at local markets.

He said that following the market operation, inter-island rice prices remained the same but much higher than the market operation prices.

"Therefore Bulog is still conducting the market operation to help the people in Ambon who want to consume the rice from Bulog with affordable price of Rp6,500 per kilogram," Tugiyo said.

On Tuesday, traders at Mardika and Nusaniwe markets in Ambon were still selling the inter-island rice of Tawon and Bulir Mas types at the price of Rp11,000 per kilogram, while the rice with Tiga Saudara brand was Rp9,000 per kilogram and Kelapa Hijau brand was Rp8,000 per kilogram.
