Ivan Stefanec, chairman of the Slovak-Taiwanese Parliamentary Friendship Group, praised Taiwan`s smooth election process as a classic example of a democratic state.
Slovakia`s top selling newspaper, Pravda, also published a day earlier an analysis on the result of the presidential election.
The report said the election was closely watched by Washington and Beijing and the both have welcomed Ma`s win.
On the triangular relations among Taiwan, the United States and China, the report went on, the U.S. welcomes peaceful developments across the Taiwan Strait and will continue helping Taiwan in its bids to join international organizations. China will also ask for further political talks with Taiwan, it said, adding that Taiwan will put "safety" first before everything else.
Congratulations also came in Jan. 15 from Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez, who also stressed that the long-term relations between Taiwan and the Dominican Republic pave the way for closer bilateral ties in the future.
The Caribbean country`s major daily newspapers -- Listin Diario, Hoy, and El Caribe -- each had extensive coverage of Taiwan`s 13th presidential election and reported that Ma`s win is beneficial to regional and cross-strait stability.
High-ranking officials from Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama also congratulated Ma on his election victory.
