The 2011 tourist arrivals exceeded the target of 2.6 million for that year, Head of the Bali Provincial Statistics Office Ir Gede Suarsa MSi said here on Friday.
The target of tourist arrivals for 2011 was higher than the realization of tourist arrivals in 2010 which reached more than 2.57 million. This meant that the number of tourist arrivals in the resort island increased significantly all the time, he said.
He said nine of top ten sources for foreign tourist arrivals in Bali recorded a significant increase and only one saw a decline.
Australia remained on top as the biggest source of foreign tourist arrivals in Bali last year with 788,664 tourists, up 22.85 percent from 641,979 in 2010. This was followed by China with 236,867, up 20.28 percent from 196,925, Malaysia 169,707, an increase of 8.13 percent from 156,946.
The number of tourists from Taiwan rose 5.69 percent to 129,226 from 122,271, South Korea 1.56 percent to 126,702 from 124,762, France 7.06 percent to 111,491 from 104,142, Singapore 14.09 percent to 111,153 from 97,429, Britain 6.68 percent to 102,969 from 96,536 and the United States 29.86 percent to 89,573 from 68,977.
However, the number of Japanese tourists visiting the resort island fell 25.62 percent from 245,212 to 181,385.(*)
