He made the statement in connection with violent incidents that are happening in various regions relating to land, labor, ethnic and religious disputes.Jambi (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on all parties here on Thursday to avoid violence as a way of settling problems.
"Incidents in the country often run against the principles of settling problems without violence. These incidents must be avoided and managed well," he said during National Press Day.
He made the statement in connection with violent incidents that are happening in various regions relating to land, labor, ethnic and religious disputes.
Yudhoyono said differences often become seeds of conflict, while demand from various parties that were conveyed hastily also help worsen the situation.
"(The situation could even be worse) if certain parties encourage people to act out of proportion," he said.
Further, the President asked all parties to settle problems thoroughly. "Do not leave any problem unresolved. Compromise is okay, but problems must be solved," he said.
President Yudhoyono also called on certain parties not to meddle in problems, thus worsening a situation.
Additionally, he called on the press to build a sense of peace by not reporting events that only worsen a situation. (*)
