Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Military (TNI)`s Garuda Contingent XX-I/Monusco is building a 37-km road in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The road will connect Kiliwa and Duru areas, the spokesman for the TNI`s Garuda Contingent XX-I/Monusco, 1st Lt Cku Sulikan, said in an emailed statement on Monday.

He added that 63 TNI personnel, led by 2nd Lt Czi Nurbani Adi who is commander of heavy-duty equipment, have been sent to Kiliwa village, along with road building equipment.

To carry out the duty, 2nd Lt Nurbani Adi, as chief of the team, is assisted by a medical team led by Capt Yayan Sofyan and operation section officer Capt Rahadian Firmansyah.

Further, commander of the military contingent`s engineering task force, Col. Sapto Widhi Nugroho, said the TNI soldiers involved in the construction of the 37-km road are staying at a new camp they have built in Kiliwa village.

"The construction of the new camp is intended to shorten the distance to the location of the project so they can accomplish their task on schedule," he said.

He described the road construction as an honor, as well as a challenge for the Indonesian military contingent to maintain the honor of the nation and state.

As the first-ranked engineering contingent within Monusco, the Indonesian military contingent must be prepared to perform whatever duties are entrusted to them, he said.

While building the road linking Kiliwa to Duru, the Garuda contingent XX-I/Monusco received security support from the Moroccan infantry battalion, he said.(*)
