Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Agriculture Ministry is to propose the application of a "one-door" system with regard to food imports whereby the staple is only brought into the country by the central government and no longer by regional governments, the ministry`s deputy chief said.

"In the national interest, food imports will only be conducted by the central government or through a one-door system," Deputy Agriculture Minister Rusman Heriawan said here on Tuesday.

"So, in the national interest, food imports can only be conducted through the one-door system," he said.

The change was necessary to prevent regional governments with huge revenues from conducting the imports by themselves.

Through the one-door system, rich regions are expected to develop their agriculture products, he said.(*)
