"Through the `Quantum Leap` program, Garuda Indonesia plans to increase the number of its planes to 154 in 2015 from 89 at present," Emirsyah said, as he greeted the arrival of new Boeing 737-800NG and Airbus A330-200 aircraft ordered by the airline at Soekarno-Hatta airport on Friday.
The new planes are part of the airline company`s program to develop and revitalize its fleet, he said.
He also made it clear that the new planes will support Garuda Indonesia`s effort to increase the frequency of its domestic and international flights.
The two planes were delivered directly from their manufacturers, at Boeing in Seattle, the United States, and Airbus in Toulouse, France.
The planes are part of a group of 21 new planes to be delivered to Garuda this year. The 21 planes include four Boeing 737-800NGs, two Airbus A330-200s, five Bombardier CRJ 1000 NextGen, and ten Airbus A320s for Citilink.
Earlier, on the sidelines of Singapore Airshow 2012 on February 15, Garuda Indonesia signed an agreement with Bombardier Aerospace for the purchase of 18 CRJ 1000 NextGen aircraft.
Five of the 18 CRJ1000 NextGen planes are to be delivered between October and December 2012.
In addition, Garuda Indonesia also has an option to purchase 18 more planes.
