Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA News) - The US Navy has expressed readiness to accommodate students of Indonesia`s Navy Education and Development Command in joint exercise activities to deepen the two countries` military cooperation.

US Task Force 73/CLWP Commander Rear Admiral Thomas Carney made the cooperation offer when visiting the Navy Education and Development Command headquarters in Bumimoro, Surabaya, East Java, on Monday.

The Navy Education and Development Command (Kobangdikal) said in its written statement the US Navy commander was received by the Command`s chief Commodore Yayat Achmad Hadirat.

Thomas Carney said the cooperation program was part of the series of joint exercises between the Indonesian and US navies code-named "Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT)" 2012.

The joint exercise plans to involve several warships with training materials including anti-submarine battle, surface ship battle and amphibious operations.

"With regard to the joint exercise if the Kobangdikal sends its students we will be ready to accommodate them in all exercise activities," Thomas said flanked by UN attache Navy Captain Adrian Jansen and attache staff Ltt Olivia Degenko.

Commodore Yayat Achmad Hadirat welcomed the office as part of efforts to deepen the military relations between the two countries.

"The exercise cooperation is also aimed at increasing professionalism of the students before being stationed in operational units," he said.

During the visit Rear Admiral Thomas Carney took an opportunity to inspect several facilities in the Kobangdikal and watched presentation of the profiles of the institution.(*)
