The government`s plan for the termination of funding for the national soccer teams emerged following the country`s 0-10 (0-4) loss against Bahrain in Bahrain on Wednesday (Feb 29) in Group E of the Pre-World Cup 2014.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government`s plan to stop injecting funds to national soccer teams organized by the All-Indonesia Soccer Association (PSSI) is reasonable, a PSSI spokesman said.

"I think the funding termination is reasonable owing to their bad performances so far. The policy is expected to improve the performance of the national teams," the figure responsible for the national soccer teams, Bernhard Limbong, said here on Tuesday.

The government`s plan for the termination of funding for the national soccer teams emerged following the country`s 0-10 (0-4) loss against Bahrain in Bahrain on Wednesday (Feb 29) in Group E of the Pre-World Cup 2014.

Earlier, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked PSSI to carry out an introspection following the senior national team`s serious defeat against the Bahraini team.

Speaking at a press conference in the presidential office here on Monday, President Yudhoyono said that PSSI can forward objections to FIFA if it considered its team`s loss against Bahrainn suspicious.

The important point is, according to Yudhoyono, PSSI should introspect to see why the serious defeat happened.

In a tossup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Indonesian soccer team was placed in Group E of the Pre-World Cup 2014 round along with Iran, Qatar and Bahrain.

The national senior soccer team failed to gain even a single point in Group E of the Pre-World Cup 2014.

The senior soccer team`s defeat from Bahrain was the worst loss ever suffered by the national soccer team since its participation in the pre-world cup matches and in various international competitions.

In 1974, the national soccer team lost to Denmark 0-9. (*)
