The ministry said in a statement the partnership was aimed at promoting mutual understanding through consultation and cooperation and was based on a shared commitment to peace, democracy, human rights, rule of law and international security.
It was the first bilateral cooperation program agreed under NATO`s new policy of developing more flexible partnerships with countries which contribute significantly to international security.
Under the program, Mongolia will cooperate with NATO in security, disaster prevention and personnel training and exchange.
In the past two years, the relationship between Mongolia and NATO has expanded rapidly, with senior officials maintaining close contacts and frequent exchanges of visits.
Mongolia is considered a valued partner by NATO because the country has provided troops for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan since 2010.
The Asian country also deployed two contingents to support NATO`s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo between 2005 to 2007. (*)
