Simon went to the semi finals of the Grand Prix Gold tournament, offering US$120,000 in total prize money, after defeating Shon Wan Ho (21-15, 12-21, 21-10).
Chen Jin, ranked fifth in the world, overpowered Takuma Ueda from Japan (21-17, 21-19) to proceed to the semi finals.
"Tomorrow I must play more patiently. He is strong and tough. It seems it will not be easy to beat him, but I will do my best," Simon said about his upcoming match against Chen Jin.
The two have met seven times, with Simon winning only once at the Malaysian Open in 2011.
Indonesia`s fifth-seeded Taufik Hidayat failed to go to the next round after surrendering to Sho Sasaki from Japan (11-21, 20-22).
"I was not prepared and also not quite fit, while Sasaki gave his best performance," Taufik said about his defeat after the match.
Taufik will participate in the India Super Series, which is the last tournament he will take part in before the Olympic Games qualifier. "India will be the last," he said.
Also, he said he hoped he would pass the qualifier on May 3 to participate at the London Olympic Games. "Hopefully, I will be safe," the 2004 Olympic Gold medalist said.
