Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and China have a similar interest in cooperating to increase agricultural productivity to improve their food security, vice presidential spokesman Yopie Hidayat said here on Tuesday.

"The improvement of agricultural productivity is very important for the two countries to support their food security for domestic needs and exports," Yopie said.

He made the statement after accompanying Vice President Boediono to receive a visit by Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Hui Liangyu at the Vice Presidential Palace on Tuesday.

Yopie added that Vice President Boediono believed it important for Indonesia to step up cooperation with China to improve its agricultural productivity.

"We know China is one of the rice producing countries and, therefore, we can explore exchanges of idea and technology to improve our agricultural productivity for food security," he continued.
