Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A delegation of the Pakistan National Defense University (NDU) led by Air Commodore Zia ul Haque Shamsi is visiting here to strengthen cooperation with defense related institutions in Indonesia.

Indonesia has been a good friend to Pakistan and has a strategic role and position in the Asia and Pacific region, Shamsi told ANTARANews here, Monday.

The 17-member delegation of the Islamabad-based NDU consists of middle-ranking military officers from Pakistan, two officers from Saudi Arabia and one from Brunei Darussalam, as well as several bureaucrats and civilian officials.

They are expected to meet officials of the Indonesian defense ministry and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). They will also visit Bali to meet local officials.

Additionally, Pakistani Ambassador to Indonesia Sanaullah hosted a dinner for the NDU delegation on Sunday evening

Shamsi said he hoped Indonesia could send officers to study at NDU, which focuses on global military strategies and security issues.

A number of countries from Asia, such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as well as those in Africa and Europe, have sent officers to study for one year at the NDU, he Shamsi said.
