Ketapang, W Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - A non-governmental organization (NGO), West Kalimantan International Animal Rescue (IAR), has saved another orangutan trapped in Pelansi village, Ketapang district, West Kalimantan province.

"A rescue team successfully saved an orangutan trapped in a snare. Local people called IAR and gave information about the orangutan," Palung Foundation member Titok Indrawan said here on Tuesday.

The orangutan is believed to have been trapped in the snare for more than 10 days near the oil-palm plantation in Ketapang district. It was found alive, but in critical condition.

"The right arm of orangutan was almost broken, as it was trapped for so long," he said.

The medical team has treated the orangutan with antibiotic injections and infusions.

According to IAR data, in 2009 they rescued 12 trapped orangutans, while 20 and 22 orangutans were saved in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

"This year, IAR has saved four orangutans till now. This shows that many orangutans go outside of their habitats," he added.(*)
