Gorontalo (ANTARA News) - Military (TNI) and police members hugged each other and exchanged apologies here on Tuesday after declaring their commitment to maintaining security in Gorontalo province in Sulawesi following a clash on Sunday.

The event attracted the attention of the public, who gathered outside the field where it took place.

"We hope this will cool down the situation and show the public that there will be no more fighting involving the two institutions," the chief of the Army`s Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad), Major General Muhammad Munir, said.

Regarding the earlier clash, the commander said TNI and the police have set up a joint team to investigate the cause of the clash and settle it based upon the law.

He said the team would soon reveal the facts objectively and transparently.

Along with the chief of the Gorontalo Police Command, Brigadier General Irawan Ahlan, he assured the public that no such incident would occur again.

"I am convinced that all TNI and police personnel do not wish a clash to happen again, moreover, out of a mere misunderstanding between individuals," he said.
