Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) today detained Angelina Sondakh at the KPK detainment center in Salemba for alleged bribery of the project of the Youth and Sports Ministry and Education and Culture Ministry last year.

Angie, as the legislator is popularly called, arrived at the KPK Building in the company of her brother-in-law, Mudjie Massaid. She smiled, but did not say a word to the newspeople covering the case.

This was the first round of interrogation done by KPK after it named Angie as a suspect on February 3, in the bribery case concerning the ministry of sports and the ministry of education in 2011.

On April 25, KPK grilled Mindo Rosalina Manulang, Yulianis, Oktarina Puri, Luthfi, and Dadang, who were former employees of Permai Group and had been convicted for corruption.

Angie, as a former member of the House of Represenatives` Budget Committee, had allegedly received bribes in connection with projects in the two ministries.

The KPK has not yet unveiled the amount of money that the country`s former beauty queen allegedly received.

During the trial of the Democrat Party`s treasurer, Muhammad Nazaruddin, some witnesses testified that the Permai Group (belonging to Nazaruddin) had distributed Rp2 billion and Rp3 billion, respectively, to Angelina and I Wayan Koster, a legislator from the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle, for the project in the ministry of sports.

The cases have shocked the public and drawn much attention because of their implication on some leading politicians, particularly since the Democrat Party has been championing the fight against corruption.
