"The employees on a contract basis have more jobs to do compared with the regular employees."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State Enterprise Minister Dahlan Iskan has said that the outsourcing work system at state-run companies makes the regular employees lazy because many of their jobs are handled by contract employees.

"The main jobs that should be carried out by state-run company employees are done by contract employees. This is outrageous," the minister said here on Tuesday, on the occasion of International Workers` Day.

On May Day, Indonesian workers demanded the abolition of outsourcing work system.

Dahlan stated that state-run companies actually had a large number of employees, but they still used contract employees to handle many important jobs.

"Normally, the employees on a contract basis have more jobs to do compared with the regular employees. This leads to a feeling of injustice," he added.

Dahlan explained that the issue of injustice came up because regular employees in state-run firms and contract employees got different salaries for similar jobs, the latter receiving lower salaries.

"So, if I employ workers based on contract system, they should not handle the main jobs," the minister said.
