President Yudhoyono also received a medal of merit from the Timor Leste government.
Dili (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with newly-installed Timor Leste President José Maria Vasconcelos, popularly known by his nom de guerre Taur Matan Ruak (Tetum for "Two Sharp Eyes"), as part of his two-day visit in the neighboring country on Sunday.

This is the first meeting between President Yudhoyono and President Taur Matan Ruak since the latter was sworn in as Timor Leste`s third president at Plaza Tasitolu early on Sunday.

The 15-minute meeting took place after the country marked the 10th anniversary of its independence.

President Yudhoyono and entourage arrived in Timor Leste on Saturday morning at 10.00 a.m. local time. He will return to Jakarta on Sunday at around 10.30 local time and is expected to arrive at Halim Perdanakusuma airport in Jakarta at 12.30 western Indonesian time.

During his stay, President Yudhoyono held bilateral talks with outgoing Timor Leste President Jose Ramos Horta at Palacio Presidential Nicolau Lobato.

They later witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between the two countries in a number of sectors including youth affairs.

President Yudhoyono also received a medal of merit from the Timor Leste government during the visit. He also met with Timor Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.

On Saturday evening, the Indonesian leader visited Seroja heroes cemetery and Santa Cruz cemetery. He attended the inauguration of new Timor Leste president before early Sunday.

On Sunday morning, President Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono attended the commemoration of Timor Leste independence. President Yudhoyono later met with newly-installed Timor Leste President Taur Matan Ruak.
