Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - At least six illegal gold miners were killed by a landslide in Gunung Pilar, Pangradin village, Jasinga sub-district, Bogor district, West Java province, on Thursday night.

"Search and rescue teams are evacuating them. There were 20 illegal miners in the area when the incident occurred," Bogor Head Disaster Management Budi Aksomo said here on Friday.

He added the mountainous terrain hampered the search and rescue teams` evacuate operations.

"The number of victims may be increase, because only eight miners were rescued," Budi explained.

Most of the miners were residents of Sukamulih village, Sukajaya subdistrict, he added.

Budi noted there had been rainfall at the mine site a few days ago.
