Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with the chief of the ANZ Banking Group Ltd., Michael Smith, and ANZ Indonesia Chairman Joseph Abraham at his office here on Tuesday

During the meeting the ANZ leaders reported about its business development in the country and continued support to Indonesia`s economic development.

Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said after accompanying the President in the meeting, that President Yudhoyono had expressed appreciation to ANZ`s commitment to helping finance investment in the country and had asked the group to make cattle farming one of their areas of attention.

"Just now the President also raised cattle farming development in Indonesian eastern regions. They have expressed commitment to take part when Australia and New Zealand plan to invest there," he said.

In a press statement received by ANTARA News the ANZ says in the past two years with an investment of Rp1.6 trillion the ANZ Group has increased the number of its branch office in Indonesia from two to 28 opened in 11 major cities.

The group has also increased the number of its employees from 200 to 1,100 in the past three years.

ANZ has also extended loas to a number of state-owned companies such as oil company Pertamina, gas company PT PGN, port operator Pelindo III and steel company Krakatau Posco.

It says it has also participated in cultural preservation efforts by participating in the restoration of Borobudur Temple and community development efforts by holding financial education programs.

The meeting is expected to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Australia in business and investment.
