"The conversion target indeed still very low."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government is seeking to save 568,000 kilo liters of oil this year through the national energy saving movement launched by the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Tuesday, energy minister Jero Wacik said.
"We will start the energy saving on June 1," he said when promoting the movement here on Wednesday, adding more oil would be saved in 2013.
He said the government would save 135,000 kilo liters of oil from the ban for central and regional government cars as well as cars of state-owned and regional government-owned cars to use subsidized oil fuels.
A total of 425,000 kilo liters meanwhile would be saved from the ban for cars belonging to plantation and mining companies to use subsidized fuels.
The rest would be achieved through oil-to-natural gas conversion expected to reach 8,000 kilo liters, he said.
"The conversion target indeed still very low as tender still has yet to be done so that the program could only be implemented in October," he said.
He said the ban for official cars to use subsidized gasoline would be started as of June 1 in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok and Bekasi while for plantation and mining company cars as of September 1 in Kalimantan.
The cars supposed to use non-subsidized fuels would be marked with a sticker and "today we will start distributing it," he said.
He said this year a total of 33 natural gas filling stations would be built and eight others would be revitalized to support the movement.
He said the government would also distribute 15,000 converter kits freely to public transports.
Jero Wacik meanwhile said the government has set a target of reducing the use of electricity by 20 percent this year.
