Singapore (ANTARA News) - Indonesia hailed any positive developments in Myanmar, including Myanmarese democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi`s first overseas trip in 24 years, a presidential aide said.

"Indonesia is one of the countries that have been consistent in supporting reforms and changes in Myanmar toward democracy. Of course, we support any positive development toward the direction," Teuku Faizasyah, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s special aide for international affairs, said following the World Economic Forum on East Asia (WEF-EA) in Bangkok on Friday.

As widely-expected, the presence of Aung San Suu Kyi at the WEF-EA drew attention from many parties and gave special accentuation to the forum, Faizasyah said.

Faizasyah also said President Yudhoyono had originally planned to meet with his Myanmarese counterpart Thein Sein. But the meeting failed to materialize as the Myanmarese leader postponed his visit in Thailand.

President Thein Sein had rescheduled his visit to Thailand in July, he said.

The two leaders were supposed to discuss positive developments in Myanmar toward democracy, he said.

President Yudhoyono told the press ahead of his departure to Bangkok on Thursday about the significance of the WEF-EA for Indonesia in particular and Southeast Asia in general.

He underscored the need for all parties to take pro-active stand by seeking new opportunities to achieve the country`s economic growth target of 6.5 percent.

While in Thailand, President Yudhoyono attended the WEF-EA and held bilateral talks with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. From Thailand, Yudhoyono continued his working visit in Singapore and and Indonesia`s outlying island of Nipah. The President and entourage including First Lady Ani Yudhoyono are scheduled to return home on Sunday. (*)
